P.V.Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, and Kidambi Srikanth are among the top-ranked Indian shuttlers, who have opted out of the upcoming Asian Team Championship scheduled to be held in Malaysia from February 6 to February 11. Sai Praneeth will lead the second-string Indian team at the Championships.

Sindhu, Saina, and Srikanth are among the top-ranked Indian shuttlers who have reportedly opted out of the championship to ease their workload. The Championship is scheduled just after the India Open, which will begin on January 30 and will continue until February 4.

The combined men’s and women’s competition was created by Badminton Asia in 2016 and was meant to replace the men’s championships event that was earlier discontinued after 1993. The event also serves as the qualification tournament for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup Finals.

The Indian team will be lead by 16th ranked Sai Praneeth and he will be accompanied by National Championships bronze medallist Subhankar Dey and former national champions Sourabh and Sameer Verma.

In the women’s singles, 2016 National Championships winner Rituparna Das will be present in the team alongside Gadde. They will be joined by rising youngsters, Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli and Anura Prabhudesai. The other team members are Sanyogita Ghorpade, Meghana Jakkampudi, Rituparna Panda, Poorvisha S Ram, Mithula UK and Prajakta Sawant.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy’s pair will be missing the tournament whereas the men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty alongwith Manu Attri-Sumeeth Reddy find a place in the team.
