Indian top-seed Sameer Verma and fifth seed Parupalli Kashyap have won their respective games to enter the quarter-finals of the Orleans Masters on Thursday. However, Gurusai Dutt crashed out of the Super 100 tournament as he lost 20-22, 21-17, 17-21 to Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen.

It was an easy victory for Kashyap in the third round of the Orleans Masters as he needed only 32 minutes to edge out Joshua Magee to secure a 21-11, 21-14 victory. It was a refreshing win for the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion as he suffered a lot of injury problems ahead of the tournament and failed to win crucial matches. However, the World No. 42 seems to be making a comeback to form and will now take on third-seeded Rasmus Gemke of Denmark to secure a berth in the semi-finals.

Unlike Kashyap, Verma had to fight hard from the very beginning was even down 7-11 before the break. But, the Swiss Open champion fought back hard to win the first game 21-11. Once he was in the flow, he didn't pull up his feet from the gas pedal and won the second game by a margin of 21-14 to enter the last eight of the men’s singles competition.

In another men’s singles match, 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Gurusai Dutt couldn’t go past the challenge of former World No. 2 Jan O Jorgensen. The duo battled for 56 minutes, which saw the Denmark star emerging victorious 20-22, 21-17, 17-21 at the end of the game.

While it was a decent day for Indian male shuttlers in the singles event, women’s star Mugdha Agrey had to bow out of the tournament as she lost to Indonesia's eighth-seeded Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

In the men’s doubles event, India’s sixth seed Francis Alwin and Kidambi Nandagopal fought neck to neck with Polland’s Milosz Bochat and Adam Cwalina for 54 minutes and emerged victorious at the end. The Indian pair will now play third-seeded German duo of Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Emil Seidel in the quarter-finals of the event.
