Subhankar Dey played an impressive game to get the better of British seventh seed Toby Penty in straight sets by a scoreline of 21-16, 21-9 to seal a spot in the semi-finals of the 2018 SaarLorLux Open on Friday. Meanwhile, Parupalli Kashyap was knocked out by France's Toma Junior Popov.

Indian shuttler Subhankar Dey sealed a semi-final berth after he pulled off another stunning victory in this year’s SaarLorLux Open in the form of British seventh seed - Toby Penty. World number 64 Dey comfortably eased passed Penty with a straight game win of 21-16, 21-9 in a match that lasted just 36 minutes. Dey, who had earlier beat the legendary Lin Dan in the previous round of the tournament, will play another Chinese shuttle En Pegbo in the semi-final on Saturday.

Meanwhile, former world number six and 2014 CWG gold medallist, Parupalli Kashyap failed to continue his good run at the ongoing BWF Super 100 tournament in Germany as he lost the quarter-finals to world no. 61 Toma Junior Popov of France in two straight games by 21-16 21-18.  Kashyap has been struggling to find form over the last couple of years losing his games in the early stages of tournaments as he has now resorted to the role of a coach to his fellow shutters.

There was more disappointment for the Indian badminton contingent in the women’s singles category, as ace shuttler Saili Rane lost to Line Kjaersfeldt of Denmark in just 28 minutes. Rane lost the match in straight games by a margin of  21-14, 21-9. Subhankar is the only Indian left in the semifinal stage of the SaarLorLux Open 2018.
