Hyderabad Open | Sameer Verma, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty win top honours

Sameer Verma clinched the title in the Men’s Singles event while the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty emerged victorious in the Men's Doubles event at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. Top seed Sameer sealed the title by defeating Malaysia's Soong Joo Ven 21-15 21-18 in the final.

After a disappointing end to the Asian Games this year for the badminton players, Indian badminton fans needed something to lift their spirits. Sameer Verma and the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty gave the fans something to cheer about after impressing in the 2018 Hyderabad Open.

Top seed Verma overcame Malaysia's Soong Joo Ven 21-15 21-18 in the finals of the Men’s Singles event the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. The focus was clearly on the Indian, who has now emerged as a strong contender for a slot in the year-ending BWF Super Series Finals.

The young pair of Rankireddy and Shetty also emerged victorious, as they beat third seeds Akbar Bintang Cahyono and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia 21-16 21-14 to lift the Men's Doubles crown in the USD 75,000 BWF Tour Super 100 tournament.

However, the Indian badminton contingent missed out on a hat-trick of wins as another top seeded local pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy finished as runners-up in the Mixed Doubles final. Chopra and Reddy fought it out for 55 minutes before eventually losing 21-15, 19-21, 23-25 against sixth seeds Akbar Bintang Cahyono and Winny Oktavina Kandow of Malaysia.
