The National Badminton Championship is scheduled to take place in Guwahati and the fans anticipate a PV Sindhu against Saina Nehwal clash at some stage. Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy are uncertain due to injury concerns which means that Sameer Verma and Parupalli Kashyap could start as favourites.

Assam’s capital is set to host the badminton nationals after nine years and the National Badminton Championship of 2019 will be the 83rd edition of the competition. With the 74th-Inter State Zonals to be held on February 10 and 11, the individual competition will commence on February 12.

The Draw for the tournament is set to take place on Monday. 8 Players each, ranked below 50 in the World Ranking men’s and women’s respectively, will be seeded in the pre-quarterfinals stage of the competition directly. Top four teams from the Doubles will also be placed in the quarterfinals stage on the same basis.

Ace shuttlers P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have already taken the center stage of the tournament as fans expect a summit clash between the country’s star badminton players. On the other hand, Sindhu and Nehwal would want to outperform each other and take the ultimate honours. Ashwini Ponnappa won’t take part in the tournament as her regular partners opted out.

Although HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, the last year’s Nationals finalists had enrolled for the event, they are highly doubtful for the competition this year due to injuries. The men’s section might witness cut-throat competition wherein you sink or you swim, with former champions Sameer Verma, Parupalli Kashyap, Asian junior champion Lakshya Sen, Chirag Sen, and B Sai Praneeth all taking part in it.
