All India Junior Badminton | Krisha Soni advances in doubles after failing in singles
12-year-old Krisha Soni had a mixed day in office at the All India Sub-Junior (U-13) Ranking Badminton tournament, which is being played at Hyderabad’s Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy Hall. After she failed in the pre-quarters of the singles event, she has held the ship steady in the doubles.
The youngster from Nagpur had started off her campaign quite well with a thumping 21-18, 21-18 win over Bihar’s P Srija in the first round on Thursday. However, her second game wasn’t an easy task as she saw some real resistance from Divitha Pottasiri of Andhra Pradesh, who she managed to beat 21-19, 21-16 in 25 minutes. Her winning streak came to an end against second seed Unnati Hooda of Haryana, who had a straightforward 12-21, 13-21 in 22 minutes.
However, Krisha upped her game in the U-13 girls doubles next as the pair of Krisha and Sarah overcame the challenge of Adarshini Shri NB and Darshini N Priya, who were defeated 21-12, 21-19 in the second round to seal a last-eight place on Friday. In the first round, they defeated Telangana’s Shaagun Singh and Srishti Singh 22-20, 14-21, 21-15.
In the quarters, the sixth-seeded duo of Krisha and Sarah would be taking on top seeds Unnati Hooda (Haryana) and Divitha Pottasiri (AP). In the other match, after doing extremely well to qualify for the main draw, Nishika Gokhe lost to top seed Navya Kanderi who beat her 21-3, 21-7.
