Orleans Masters | Ajay Jayaram, Parupalli Kashyap bow out in pre-quarterfinals

Ajay Jayaram, Parupallli Kashyap, Mugda Agrey and Mithun Manjunath have been defeated in straight games in the third round of the ongoing Orleans Masters in France. The Indian women’s doubles and mixed doubles pair also lost their respective matches to crash out of the BWF Tour Super 100 tournament.

In men’s singles tie, Kashyap went down 14-21, 19-21 to Japan’s Koki Wantanabe and failed to make it to the quarter-finals of the ongoing event in France. The match, which was dominated by the Japanese from the very beginning lasted for only 44 minutes with the Indian losing the battle. Unseeded Jayram also lost his third round match against eighth seed  Thomas Rouxel in straight games. The Indian shuttler was no match for Rouxel as he was beaten in 35 minutes by 21-10, 21-17 points.

In another men’s singles, battle India’s Manjunath lost to Indonesia’s Gatjra Piliang Fiqihila Cupu in straight games as well. The Indonesian gave no chance to Manjunath and won the first game 9-21. While the Indian showed some fight back in the second one but that was not enough and the match ended in 37 minutes after Cupu won the second game by 21-18 points.

In women’s singles encounter, Agrey lost 10-21, 19-21 to sixth seed Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland in her third round match at the event in France. The women’s doubles pair of Pooja Dandu and Sanjana Santosh and mixed doubles combination of Dhruv Kapila and Kuhoo Garg also failed to make an impact in the pre-quarterfinals as they lost their respective battles on Thursday. Pooja and Sanjana were defeated by Indonesia’s Yulfira Barkah and Jauza Fadhila Sugiarto. After going down 14-21 in the first game, the Indian pair took the match to a decider by taking away the second one 21-18. However, a closely-fought third game was lost by the Indian duo by 19-21 points.

The fourth seed Russian mixed doubles pair of Evgenij Dremin and Evgenia Dimova got the better of Dhurv and Kuhoo by 23-21, 21-12 points in straight games to end the Indian duo’s challenge in France.
