Kaushal Dharmamer wins singles title in Maldives; Pramod Bhagat wins title in China

Indian badminton had a great day in office with Mumbai’s Kaushal Dharmamer winning the singles tile at the Maldives International Challenge in straight-games. In another tournament, India’s star para shuttler Pramod Bhagat won the China Para-Badminton International alongside partner Manoj Sarkar.

Dharmamer had turned heads previously with a title win at the Myanmar International Series where he had a very comfortable victory. Sunday wasn’t very different and this time he was playing compatriot Siril Verma and this time he finished him off 21-13 21-18 in a match that lasted 35 minutes. Apart from that, the tournament also four other events that had Indians playing the final matches, but no one win barring Dharmamer. 

The women’s duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost 10-21, 21-17, 12-21 to the Japanese pair of Sayak Hobara and Natsuki Soni, while Saipratheek Krishnaprasad and Ashwini Bhat lost 11-21 15-21 to Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Chasinee Korepap in the mixed doubles. Apart from them, the second seeds men’s doubles duo of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla went down 9-21, 20-22 to top seeds Keiichiro Matsui and Yoshinori Takeuchi from Japan. 

In other tournaments, Malvika Bansod got the better of Gayatri Gopichand 21-14, 21-18 in the Nepal International Series final. However, para badminton world champion Pramod Bhagat kept his winning form intact as he won another double crown at China Para-Badminton International in Hangzhou (SL 3 men’s singles and doubles title with Manoj Sarkar).
