Vijender backs India at AIBA World Boxing Championship Doha 2015
Olympic medallist Vijender Singh remarked that he is following Indian boxing ever so closely, even as he prepares for his professional debut in Manchester, England. India is represented by six pugilists at the World Championships starting in Doha (Qatar) on October 6.
“I wish them all the best for the World Championships. I know a lot is going on in Indian boxing right now, and it’s not easy to stay focused, but they are doing a fabulous job,” said Vijender who is preparing for his first professional fight on October 10.
The World Championships in Doha is also the first qualifying event for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
L Devendro Singh (49kg), Madan Lal (52kg), Shiva Thapa (56kg), Manoj Kumar (64kg), Vikas krishan (75kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) qualified for the Worlds through their performances at the Asian Championships in August.
“I am sure these boys will do exceptionally well in the World Championships too,” said Vijender.
Twenty three places in 10 weight categories for the Olympics will be decided at the World Championships.
