Mary Kom accuses national selectors of bias
India’s most decorated woman boxer MC Mary Kom has accused national selectors and referees of regional bias, and said she will prove herself in the ring again.
“Sometimes I feel very upset. Some of the referees and judges do not favour me, but I don’t mind. Okay I am from North-East, no problem, but I am still an Indian ”, the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist and five-times World champion from Manipur told domestic media.
“There are so many controversies. Pinki Jangra, I always defeat her and prove it to get a gold medal in every competition but they (boxing selectors) continue to support her ”, 32-year-old Kom said, referring to the Haryana pugilist who competes in the same weight category.
Kom was left out of the 2014 Commonwealth Games team after she was beaten by Jangra in the 51kg trials but the Manipur boxer claimed it was poorly judged.
“It is still okay. I will prove myself in the ring,” Kom said.
