“Careful what you wish for kid” was the response from British Boxing star Amir Khan to Vijender Singh’s proposal about a possible showdown in India in the coming months. Amir Khan took to Twitter to congratulate the Indian pugilist on his maiden title win and reacted to the possible face-off.

Vijender Singh, the 2008 Olympics bronze medallist, secured his seventh consecutive victory on Saturday as he won the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title by defeating former European champion Kerry Hope by a unanimous decision. Speaking to the media after winning the title, Vijender had hinted at a possible fight between him and Amir Khan.

Mine and Amir's weight categories are different. So, in case he increases his weight or I decrease mine then we can work it out. We are thinking about it, so let's see. I hope that when that big fight happens, it happens in India only."

Francis Warren of the Queensberry Promotions, Vijender's British promoter, had also confirmed that they had tentatively talked to the British Boxing star’s team about a possible fight.

"In the long term, we will keep an eye on Amir Khan as well. That fight over here will be phenomenal, it will be a massive fight. We have tentatively talked with Amir's team, I know they want it, I know Vijender wants it," Francis Warren had said.
