Vijender Singh to compete in London on April 2
After earning four wins a row, Indian pugilist Vijender Singh will travel to London for his fifth bout on April 2 at the Harrow Leisure Centre. Vijender had defeated Hungary's Alexander Horvath in his last bout on Saturday night at Liverpool for his fourth win in the professional boxing arena.
The Olympics and World Championship bronze medalist is gearing up for his maiden title fight in June in front of his home fans and will start the preparations for the title bout with an eight-round contest against an unnamed opponent on April 2.
"London here I come! I can't wait to fight at Harrow and show London fans what Vijender is all about. I've fought in Manchester, Dublin and Liverpool and now I'm heading to the English capital for my fifth professional fight. I have started working hard for my fight which is just two weeks away and aiming at a fifth
The eight-round fight will be a first for the Indian, who has been fighting six rounds and four rounds in his past bouts, although that has not made much of a difference with Vijender knocking out his opponents early on in each of the four matches. Vijender had made his pro-boxing debut in October last year and has been on an unbeaten run, defeating Sonny Whiting, Dean Gillen, Samet Hyuseinov and Alexander Horvath via knockouts.
"I had a good win in Liverpool last week and I want to continue my unbeaten run in London. Whoever I fight, they're are going to be in trouble. I thought that Horvath was going to give me something different but he only lasted three rounds.
"I know that the fans in London are looking forward to me coming to fight there and there is a big buzz already. This is now a big push before returning home in the summer to challenge for my first pro title so it's crucial that I win these fights," said the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medallist.
