Amit Panghal continued his brilliant run in international boxing by clinching a gold medal at the ongoing Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok on Friday. On the other hand, two other male boxers Kavinder Singh Bisht and Deepak Singh lost their respective final bouts to secure the silver medal.

It was all too easy for Asian Games gold-medallist Panghal as he won the final of the 52kg weight category in the ongoing Asian Championships in Thailand by beating Korea’s Kim Inkyu. It was a unanimous decision that went in his favour in the final. Earlier this year, Panghal had won a gold in the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria. Panghal, who had won a bronze in the continental event in 2015 edition, has recently changed his weight category from 49kg to 52kg.

In another summit clash, National Champion Deepak Singh lost by split decisions to Nodirjon Mirzahmedov of Uzbekistan in 49kg weight division. The Indian contingent had protested the decision of the referees by handing a yellow card, a new system which has been introduced in the tournament on a trial basis.

“We cannot get the decision changed. Just a protest here. The system will officially start in the world championships,” national coach CA Kuttappa told PTI.

Bisht was also defeated by an Uzbek pugilist -Mirazizbek Mirzahalilov in the 56kg final. Bisht settled with a silver in the final bout as he lost in a unanimous decision.

Among the female boxers from India, Pooja Rani clinched gold after winning her final bout against China's Wang Lina in the women's 81kg category. The silver and bronze medallist from the 2012 and 2015 editions respectively won the final by a split verdict to win the Championships this year.
