Services become Best Team in Youth Boxing Nationals, Haryana finish second

Services collected a total of 69 points at the ongoing Third Youth Boxing Nationals and were declared as the Best Team at the competition. Services bagged nine gold and one bronze medal in the competition while with five gold medals and 46 points while Haryana topped in the girls’ category.

On the last day of the Youth Boxing Nationals at Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, Services’ pugilists managed to bag all the nine gold medals those were on offer for them in the final round. Bhavesh Kattimani (52kg), Harsh Chaudhury (75kg) Lakshya Chahar (81kg) won their respective finals by unanimous decisions while in the 69kg category, Vijaydeep won the summit clash by a split decision.

In the 91kg category, there was no Services boxer and Haryana’s Harsh Gill won against Harsh Rana from Delhi to clinch the gold medal.

Among the girls, Haryana got a perfect start with Minakshi winning the final bout in the 51kg weight category against Sandeep Kaur from Punjab. The Haryana pugilist won the final clash by a 3-2 split verdict in her favour. Poonam defeated Rajasthan’s Arshi Khanan by a unanimous verdict to give Haryana the second gold medal in the female boxing in the 54kg final.

Rajasthan also had a good outing on the last day of the tournament as they ended with six medals including three gold, two silver and one bronze.

Haryana boys won nine medals including one gold and secured the second position while Delhi finished third with three silver medals in the event in Uttarakhand. 

Punjab and Manipur bagged a gold medal each with Komal winning in the 81Kg for Punjab and Sanamacha Chanu clinching the gold medal in 75kg for Manipur.
