MC Mary Kom has expressed her disappointment on the judges after she lost the semi-final bout of the Women’s World Boxing Championships to Busenaz Cakiroglu from Turkey. However, Mary Kom has also mentioned that she found the right balance for the 51 kg weight category in this event.

Mary Kom won a bronze medal after losing the semi-final against Turkey’s Busenaz Cakiroglu by a split verdict of 1-4 on Saturday. Mary Kom who was battling out in the 51kg category managed to clinch her eighth World Championships medal but this time, it was only a bronze medal.

The ace pugilist was not happy with the verdict and expressed his disappointment after the loss as well. The Indian contingent wanted to appeal but as per the AIBA guidelines, it was not allowed as Mary Kom had lost the game by a 4-1 verdict.

“I am certainly very unhappy with the judging. This loss is unacceptable to me I could never imagine that something like this would happen to me. I am quite shocked,” Mary Kom told PTI.

This was her eighth medal at the global event. However, on the last seven occasions, she had won the medals either in 48 kg or in 46 kg categories. Mary Kom is of the belief that now she has found the perfect balance in the 51 kg category as well.

“I think I found the right balance for 51 kg category in this World Championship. I knew how much effort I needed to put in, the plans and strategies also worked out quite well,” explained the 36-year-old boxer from Manipur.

“So I have got a good idea of what awaits me in the Olympic qualifiers and I now have the confidence that I can beat that. The performance has made me stronger, I have got fresh confidence for that Olympic dream. That was the whole plan to start with.”
