The BCCI, on Tuesday, accepted the resignation of India Women’s Team Coach Tushar Arothe, who cited personal reasons behind his resignation and thanked the BCCI for giving him an opportunity to work with the team. Under his stint, the team reached the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017.

A few days ago, there had been reports that a few senior players were not happy with Arothe's style of functioning after India lost the Twenty20 Asia Cup final against Bangladesh in Malaysia last month. After the loss, the camp, that was supposed to be held in Bangalore, was cancelled and meanwhile, some players went on to meet the Committee of Administrators in Mumbai to intimate their displeasure about Arothe’s style of working.

The Baroda all-rounder took over the responsibility of the team from former Indian women's team skipper Purnima Rau in April last year after senior players asked BCCI about the need for a more professional support staff ahead of the World Cup. While Rau was successful as India’s coach in which she oversaw the home success against New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Windies, maiden T20I series win in Australia, successful defence of the Asia Cup and the World Cup Qualifier title, Arothe helmed the team to the finals of the World Cup.

Arothe also delivered very good result after the World Cup as India won both the ODI and T20I series in South Africa earlier this year and was also in charge of the India A side that beat Bangladesh A in December last year.

Things, however, were not all rosy after that as India lost all the three ICC Women’s Championship ODIs against Australia in Baroda and the triangular T20I series involving Australia and England in Mumbai. Although India ended the home season with a 2-1 ODI series win against England in Nagpur, their terrible performance in the Asia Cup made the women's cricket revolution weaker in the country.
