Reports | BCCI succumbing to NADA and state elections primary agenda for CoA meeting
The BCCI coming under the ambit of NADA and its state-wise elections will dominate the Committee of Administrators' meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday. Last week, the BCCI finally ended their years of defiance to the anti-doping agency after a meeting with top Sports Ministry officials.
Last Friday was a landmark moment in BCCI’s history. CEO Rahul Johri’s meeting with the government ended with the most powerful cricketing board on the planet agreeing to come to terms with the anti-doping policies of the WADA – and its national body, NADA.
According to PTI reports, the CoA members are likely to discuss how the new development could be incorporated in the board’s constitution. With its stated "zero tolerance" approach for doping, the Supreme Court-appointed body will discuss the matter at length.
However, that is not the only matter on the agenda for the committee. Chairman Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and Lt Gen (Retd) Ravi Thodge will also be making an overall assessment of the elections of the state associations, and the BCCI polls that will follow suit on October 22. The trio will take into account how many associations are still left to comply to the Lodha committee reforms and take necessary steps in accordance.
Another issue that could spring up for discussion is the six-member short-list for selection of the men’s national team’s head coach. The responsibility to make the final decision is with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), led by Kapil Dev. The six – Mike Hesson, Tom Moody, Phil Simmons, Lalchand Rajput, Robin Singh, and current coach, Ravi Shastri – will appear for interviews likely to be held on August 16.
