Bangladesh rope in Charl Langeveldt and Daniel Vettori as bowling coaches
On Saturday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board have moved quickly to bring in the experienced duo of Charl Langeveldt and Daniel Vettori to serve as bowling coaches for the national team. Langeveldt will be the new fast bowling, coach while Vettori will act as their short-term spin bowling coach.
Bangladesh were definitely the surprise package at this year's World Cup in England where they pulled off a couple of upsets, most notably, the opening win against South Africa which will be remembered by Bangladesh fans for a long time. Riding on the back on some incredible batting displays by former skipper Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh were in the running to make the semi-finals but bowed out of the race as they succumbed to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the Virat Kohli-led India.
The Bangla Tigers are currently without a head coach right now after parting ways with Steve Rhodes due to 'cultural mismatch'. However, on Saturday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board moved quickly to appoint former South Africa pacer Charl Langeveldt and New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori as their new fast-bowling coach and spin bowling coaches respectively.
"Langeveldt has confirmed his service after we talked to him. After he comes here, we'll finalize all formalities regarding the contract. Vettori is in USA now. He confirmed us through e-mail. But he will be available for 100 days only and will start his work with Bangladesh ahead of the series against India," BCB president Nazmul Hasan said in a press conference on Saturday.
Langeveldt, who played 72 ODIs and six Test matches for South Africa, last played for the Proteas in 2010 after which he had outings as a bowling coach with South Africa and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Vettori has enjoyed a role as coach across major domestic T20 leagues having coached the likes of Brisbane Heat in BBL and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
Langeveldt will replace the outgoing Courtney Walsh and has been appointed for two years. However, Vettori will come in ahead of Bangladesh's tour of India in November and stay until the end of the T20 WC in Australia next year.
