One of the most successful fast bowlers in Tests, James Anderson has sought the help of Manchester City’s world-class training facilities to recover from his calf injury. This injury ruled him out of the rest of the Ashes, which proved to be a fatal blow to England’s chances of regaining the Urn.

England’s failure to regain the Ashes in their home conditions just shows that even in the twilight of his career, Anderson is extremely crucial to the team. Anderson sustained the injury while playing for Lancashire in July and was still risked to play the first Ashes test. He managed to bowl only four overs and then sadly had to walk off the pitch having aggravated his calf injury.

It is extremely difficult for an athlete of his age (37) to recover quickly from an injury and having already missed out on the Ashes series, he will also miss England's away series in New Zealand where they play two tests in November and December. However, he is hopeful of making a comeback into England's Test set up when they tour South Africa for playing four tests in late December later this year.

“(Anderson) will be hoping to use the world class facilities at the Etihad Campus with the England Cricket sports science team over the next two months leading into the South Africa tour which starts in December,'' said an ECB representative to Reuters.

The ECB signed off by saying that Anderson’s progress in the sessions will be monitored by England's lead in strength and conditioning Rob Ahmun.
