The recent disaster in Lahore where Pakistan lost the T20 series 3-0 to Sri Lanka has to have its repercussions and it seems like it will be skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed who will be at the receiving end of it. According to reports Sarfaraz will be asked to relinquish his Test captaincy by the PCB.

In its aftermath, a meeting between the Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman and skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed is supposed to be held next week. According to a cricketpakistan.com.pk report, Sarfaraz, who has been under the radar for some time now, will be asked to relinquish his Test captaincy.

The report went on to state that Sarfaraz will lead the team in Australia where they are scheduled to play a T20 series this November. However, we have to until next week to know for sure what happens to Sarfraz the Test captain which will be decided in the meeting.

Many greats of Pakistan cricket like Shahid Afridi and Zaheer Abbas have stressed that Sarfaraz should give up Test captaincy to concentrate on the limited-overs format of the game. There has been a steady decline in Safaraz’s performance across the formats and captaincy can be a major reason behind this.

Many opined that Sarfaraz should be removed from captaincy after Pakistan’s poor performance in the recently concluded World Cup in England. Pakistan was only able to gather 11 points from a possible 18 as a result of which they crashed out in the round-robin stage of the tournament.
