Anshuman Gaekwad set to be included in BCCI's Apex Council
The former Indian opener and coach is set to be a part of the nine-member BCCI apex council. In the elections that will take place from October 11-13, two members will be elected at the council by the Indian Cricket Association (ICA), one male and one female, according to BCCI's new constitution.
Anshuman Gaekwad will be included in BCCI's Apex Council with a view to revitalizing the administration. ICA voted former India Women's captain Shanta Rangaswamy as the female representative and Anshuman Gaekwad as the male representative. He won the election with 471 votes. Others who contested for the spot were Kirti Azad (381 votes) and Rakesh Dhurv (223 votes).
Former Indian wicket-keeper Surinder Khanna was also elected by the ISA as a member of IPL's seven-member Governing Council. This marks as some kind of a revolution in Indian cricket history as for the first time these many numbers of former cricketers will be a part of BCCI's governing and administrative body. Former Indian batsman Ashok Malhotra will take charge as ICA's Chairman.
It is very important that former players who have done so much for the country to have a say in the decision-making process of Indian cricket. It is imperative to give them the respect they deserve. Thus the Lodha committee recommended former Indian players in the ICA to be a part of BCCI's Apex Council and IPl's Governing council. This will go a long way in reforming Indian Cricket Administration.
