WATCH, BBL | Audacity takes back seat as Renshaw gets cleaned up in bizarre fashion
Courageous acts can often put the opposition in trouble. Brisbane Heat batter Matthew Renshaw opted for a similar approach in the BBL game against the Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba before fortune ruined him, resulting in one of the most bizarre bowled dismissals in the tournament’s history.
Winning the toss and electing to field first worked well for the Strikers when they got the better of Matthew Short and D’Arcy Short inside the powerplay. However, the middle and lower order put on some solid show with the bat to propel them to 173 runs first innings total. Similar to their counterparts, the hosts lost a couple of early wickets before Nathan McSweeney and Renshaw stabilised the stage with a fifty-plus stand. However, the consolidated concluded, courtesy of Renshaw’s fault resulted in a wayward dismissal.
Lloyd Pope came over the wicket on the fourth ball of the tenth over and bowled a slider wide outside the stumps. Renshaw shuffled across the line and tried to ramp but got beaten on the inside edge and thud onto the thigh region. The ball ricocheted onto the stumps off the pad, leaving the batter frustrated. Renshaw was seen courageous with the bat and counter-punched the opponent to take the Heat out of scrutiny. However, the same intent led to his downfall at a critical stage of the game, leaving the southpaw disappointed.
Ren-Shocked!
No way!
