RCB Add New Overseas Star to Squad Ahead of Crucial Matches

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have announced their replacement player this season. Nuwan Thushara was unavailable for the team since the start of this season due to NOC issues. But now, the team has announced Richard Gleeson as a replacement for the same.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have surely dominated in the IPL 2026. But the team has also faced unavailability issues to some extent, as some players were injured while others didn't receive the NOC. One of them was Nuwan Thushara, the Sri Lankan player, who didn't receive the NOC from his board.

RCB waited for a long time to have Nuwan join their team, which could strengthen their bowling line-up. But unfortunately that didn't happen, even with the team almost sealing its place in the playoffs. Due to this reason, they decided to finally sign a replacement for the same, and Richard Gleeson has now signed with the team.

This also means Virat Kohli is no longer the oldest player in the team right now. Gleeson, aged 38, has a lot of experience in the shortest format of the game. Last year, he was a part of Mumbai Indians and played just one game for them. While his experience in the IPL is short, he would still be able to add depth to the RCB bowling line-up.

Our Take

Richard Gleeson will be making a lot of efforts to ensure that he gets a place in the team, for any of its remaining league stage games. Looking at his height, RCB will be able to get the most out of him on the pitches with variable bounce and pace. Jacob Duffy and Josh Hazlewood are already leading the team's overseas pace bowling attack. At the same time, the inclusion of Richard Gleeson will be adding more depth to the same.
