Advani: 14th world title and still going strong
India’s Pankaj Advani bagged his 14th world title as he outplayed Peter Gilchrist of Singapore by 1168 points in the final of the IBSF World Billiards Championship in Adelaide, Australia.
The 30-year-old Bengaluru cueist had lost to Gilchrist in the final of the 150-Up Point format, but appeared unstoppable from the start in the Time format as he defended his crown.
“I was determined to get even with Peter after losing the point format final to him. A productive chat with my sports psychologist brother Shree, and a good night's sleep did the trick,” Advani said.
“We discussed my strategies and mental approach the night before the big final and it all panned out perfectly,” he added.
Advani carved back-to-back triple century breaks to take early control, and followed it up with breaks of 284, 119, 101 and 106 for a firm grip on the match.
