National champion Sourav Kothari stunned compatriot and multiple times world champion Pankaj Advani in the quarterfinals of the IBSF World Billiards (long-up format) in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Kothari dominated the proceedings to win 1000-644.

Given his vast experience on the big stage, Advani was touted as the runaway winner, but Kothari displayed unfaltering belief in his own ability. Trailing 256 to Advani's 352 until the ninth visit, Kothari posted a break of 181 in his 18th visit to take the lead.

Advani had an opportunity to regain the lead in the 19th visit, but could garner only 65 points. In the 28th visit, Kothari hit a break of 293 to take his score to 949 against Advani’s 538.

Kothari will meet compatriot Dhvaj Haria in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, world champion Peter Gilchrist of Singapore defeated Briton Robert Hall to make it to the last-four stage where he will take on Rupesh Shah.
