Asian Snooker Championship | Pankaj Advani wins title, completes career grand slam in cue sports
Pankaj Advani has become the only cueist to win the Asian and World Championships in all the formats as he bagged the Asian Snooker Championship title on Friday. The Indian got the better of Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon 6-3 in the final of the continental event which was held in Doha.
In the final, Thanawat from Thailand had a very positive start against the Indian by taking a 2-0 lead. Advani, however, made a stunning comeback to make it 1-2 with a 54 break. At one point in the final, it was all levelled up at 3-3 but Thanawat lost his momentum towards the end and Advani eventually claimed the title by winning 6-3 10-52, 1-97(97), 95(54)-1, 110(75)-1, 69-43, 71(60)-44, 80-49, 72-42, 67(50)-1.
This was the only event which was missing from the Indian’s trophy cabinet and had won the same in Billiards before. Advani is the only player to bag the title in both billiards and snooker. The 33-yeare-old from Bengaluru will now play in IBSF World Cup which will be held next week in Doha.
“With this title, I’ve done everything I could when representing my country in both the sports. This win completes my trophy cabinet so I now know I will be sleeping well for a very long time.” Advani was quoted as saying by PTI.
“Having won all that there is, I’d like to continue competing with the objective of deriving personal growth through the medium of sport and to also share my knowledge with budding cueists. I’m now going to enter every championship to enjoy my game while at the same time focus on other areas of my life too.”
