Following the ignominy of losing to Bayern Munich again, Barcelona have released an official statement that has confirmed that both Pedri and Jordi Alba suffered injuries during the game. The La Liga giants had an unbeaten start to their 2021/22 season, but suffered a 3-0 loss to the Bavarians.

Having lost Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann over the summer, alongside other players, few expected Barcelona to actually triumph over Bayern Munich. But given the quality and experience that Ronald Koeman had at his disposal, few expected Barcelona to get outplayed. Yet, that is exactly what happened with the La Liga giants struggling to even lay a finger on Bayern with the Camp Nou side losing their first game of the season.

The game ended with the Bavarians scoring thrice including two from Robert Lewandowski while Barcelona failed to even hit the target once. It had many fans and critics alike shocked at the performance Koeman’s side put up but things have gotten even worse now. The club, in a statement, has confirmed that Pedri has joined the injury list with no return date.

“The first team player Pedri has a quadriceps muscle injury in his left thigh. The player is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return. Pedri was in the starting XI against Bayern Munich on Tuesday and played all 90 minutes. In total this season the midfielder has made two appearances in the league - the 4-2 win over Real Sociedad at Camp Nou and the 1-1 draw away at Athletic Club in San Mamés,” reads the statement on Barcelona’s website.

The midfielder isn’t the only one, with Jordi Alba also joining his compatriot on the physios’ table for the foreseeable future. This comes as a massive blow for Barcelona as Pedri and Alba join a five man list of injured players that includes Ousmane Dembele, Sergio Aguero and Ansu Fati. But while Pedri’s injury is said to be a “quadriceps muscle injury in his left thigh”, Alba has suffered a “hamstring injury in his right thigh”.

“Tests carried out on Wednesday morning on the first team player Jordi Alba show that he has a hamstring injury in his right thigh. The player is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.  The left back had to be replaced in the 74th minute of the game against Bayern Munich at Camp Nou, making way for Alejandro Balde to make his official debut for the first team,” reads the statement on Barcelona’s website.
