Hockey India announces cash reward to newly crowned Junior Asia Cup champions
Hockey India on Monday announced a cash prize of Rs. one lakh each for the players and the head coach of the title-winning Indian team at the Junior Asia Cup. The Indian colts had beaten arch-rivals Pakistan 6-2 on Sunday to lift the title at Kuantan, Malaysia.
Hockey India President Narinder Dhurv Batra said, "It is a proud moment for all of us. I congratulate the players, the coaches and the support staff for their hard work and dedication,” reported PTI.
He also shared his optimism about the team going from strength to strength in the future. "The lifting of the eighth Junior Men's Asia Cup is a testimony to their calibre and passion for the game. This win will give the team confidence and they should only go from strength to strength from here. I wish the boys the very best for a promising future.”
Harmanpreet Singh, who was the top-scorer of the tournament with 15 goals, including a hat-trick in the final, will receive an additional prize of Rs. one lakh. Vikas Dahiya, who was awarded the 'Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament', will also receive an additional prize of Rs. one lakh.
