Final nail in IHF's coffin as IOA asked to recognize Hockey India
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has asked Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to remove Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) from all official records and recognize Hockey India (HI) as the sole governing body of the sports in India. This is an implementation of the judgment passed by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) last month, following an unsuccessful appeal by IHF.
"In continuation to the decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) based out of Lausanne, Switzerland, on 17th September 2015, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has now formally written a letter to the Indian Olympic Association, requesting them to remove all reference of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) from their records and website,"FIH said in an official statement.
Hockey India came into existence after IOA suspended the IHF back in 2008, after their then Secretary General, JothiKumaran was allegedly caught on video taking a bribe. But state federations were not willing to accept HI as the ruling body and a legal battle between HI and IHF ensued.
IHF challenged the decision to recognize HI as the sole governing body of hockey in India at CAS and last month, the verdict went against them. This provided a further boost to HI's status and FIH has now followed up that decision to completely remove the IHF from official records.
