The Indian women's team were hammered 1-4 by their counterparts from the United States of America on day three of the competition in Johannesburg. With the win, the Americans virtually guaranteed themselves a place in the quarter-finals of this World Cup and World League Final qualification event.

India (WR: 12) and USA (WR: 6) took to the field under the floodlights in the final match of day three, and the Americans proved too strong for the Indian eves and maintained their winning start to the competition and finished the day at the top of the Pool B standings.

Jill Witmer gave the USA the lead with a blistering backhand strike in the 24th minute before India levelled matters eight minutes after half-time thanks to Lilima Minz. However, the Americans were just too good on the day, as they then scored three times without reply through Taylor West, Witmer and Michelle Vitesse to complete a 4-1 victory and virtually guarantee their place in the quarter-finals of this World Cup and World League Final qualification competition.

India also has the World No. 3 Argentina and world No. 20 Chile in their group of the Hockey World League Semi-Final, which is also a World Cup Qualifier.
