India has been handed a favorable draw for the 2018 Hockey World Cup as they are clubbed with Belgium, Canada, and South Africa in Pool C of the competition. The group and the knockout stages are set to begin from November 28 and December 9 respectively, while the final scheduled for December 16.

The Hockey World Cup draws were announced on Wednesday, February 28 and the 16 participating teams were drawn in 4 pools consisting of 4 teams each. India was handed a favorable draw as they have been placed with Belgium (2016 Olympic silver medalists), Canada and South Africa in the Pool C.

The Pool A comprises of the World No. 2 and Rio 2016 Olympic Champions Argentina who were drawn against Spain and New Zealand who lie on the 8th and 9th spot in the rankings. 18th placed France side take up the last spot in the group.

World no.1 and the defending champions Australia make the Pool B along with England, Ireland and China, while four-time champions Pakistan were drawn against 2017 European Champions Netherlands in the Pool D. Germany and Malaysia take up the final two spots in the Pool D making it a group of death.

The World Cup was scheduled to start from November 26 in Bhubaneshwar. The Pool stages will be played between  November 28 and December 9. The knockout stages will begin from December 12 with the final taking place on December 16.

Pool A : Argentina, New Zealand, Spain, France

Pool B : Australia, England, Ireland, China

Pool C : Belgium, India, Canada, South Africa

Pool D : Netherlands, Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan.
