FIH Series Finals | Gurjant Singh to replace injured Sumit in final

Gurjant Singh, who was a standby with the Indian team has been called in to replace Sumit for the final encounter of the FIH Series Finals against South Africa in Bhubaneswar. Sumit sustained a fracture in his right hand during the semi-final against Japan and has been ruled out from today's game.

India will not have the services of midfielder Sumit in the final clash of the tournament against South Africa on Saturday and he will be replaced by Gurjant Singh who is known for his reverse flick goals. Gurjant was a standby for the tournament and was training with the Indian team at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

"This can happen during tough matches, Sumit sustained a complex fracture of the right hand during yesterday's match. He will be operated on this afternoon. He will be replaced by Gurjant who has now joined the team. The boys are used to these last minute changes and won't affect our preparations for today's important Final against South Africa," said India's Chief Coach Graham Reid, reported Hockey India.

India will take on South Africa in the summit clash today evening with the game scheduled to start at 19:15 IST. India had defeated Japan by 7-2 goals in the second semifinal yesterday and has been unbeaten in the tournament. On the other hand, South Africa got the better of the USA in the first semifinal yesterday by 2-1 goals.
