After the terror attack on CRPF Jawans in Pulwama on February 14, the Indian Government decided to remove Pakistan from the Most Favoured Nation list and this led to the increase in customs duty to 200%. Meanwhile, the issue of import and export between the two countries
As per the report, 90% of the hockey sticks used in India are brought from the neighbouring country as most of the sports goods manufacturers focus on cricket equipment in India.
The Indian Express reported that in 2015-16, the Department of Commerce estimated the value of sticks imported from Pakistan to be Rs 24.48 lakh. The figure jumped to Rs 2 crore by December 2018. According to the hockey players and coaches, there is a big difference in quality between the sticks made in India and that is manufactured in Pakistan.
