Daily Catch-Up: THE FIRST EDITION

SportsCafe Desk

Hello all! Welcome to the 1st Edition of the SportsCafe Newsletter! Our endeavor through this is to bring all the latest happenings on Indian sports in an interesting, exciting and concise (300 word promise!) format! Let’s start with Cricket (Boss yeh India hai, Cricket hi bikta hai!)

Growing up, Mohali was considered the only true fast-bowler's pitch in India. Surprise! The 1 Test between SA vs Ind saw a day one turning track! India batted first and were all out for 200 odd, thanks to Vijay and no-thanks to left arm chinaman Dean Elgar (Who is this guy?), Click for more. Also, All-stars cricket promoted by Sachin and Warne is happening (yes, you already know that) and their much awaited squads are out (Click and you will never see more cricketing talent in one picture!)

Moving on to #letsfootball, FC Goa won 2-0 over Chennaiyin FC thanks to two penalties in a match dominated by the Chennai team. FC Goa are now sitting top of ISL at the mid-way stage with 15 points. The match saw Kerala’s Harmanjyot Khabra returning from a 2 match ban get red carded again – This guy is every working man’s idol, get paid to do nothing! Earlier in the day, Marchena left Kerala Blasters and ISL having failed to recover from a back injury. Also, FC Goa’s Lucio has joined the growing chorus to have one integrated league in India (Is big corporate listening?).

Badminton! Saina has spoken about her injury and the difficulties she is facing in over-coming it. Sad news for her fans as she may not be able to play in next week’s China Open as per her tweets. Also, Jwala/Ashwini finally received sponsorship from OGQ (a little too late?).  Moving to Tennis, Paes/Nadal may have gone but Bopanna is keeping India's flag high at the Paris masters - into the QFs!

And finally, we come to Archery - Asian Championships are on and Deepika Kumari has done India proud again! She won the Bronze in Recurve mixed team event with Jayanta Talukdar while the Compound mixed team finished 4 Lots more action coming up in this over the next few days.
