After their requests for TVs and furniture were rebuffed by the Olympic organizers, the Indian contingent has been forced to buy them out of their own cost. In fact, the situation is so terrible that the Indian Chef de Mission has given the TV and chairs from his room to the Indian hockey team.

Conditions at the Olympic village in Rio have been the subject of much criticism with the athletes finding clogged showers and toilets, unfurnished rooms upon their arrival. The Indian hockey team had raised the issue with the Chef de Mission Rakesh Gupta, and it is learnt that he has given the stuff from his own room to the Indian hockey team.

Request for further facilities has been refused by the Olympic organizing Committee, it is learnt. The Indian contingent has now been forced to buy them at their own expense, reported the Hindu.

“Unfortunately, Rio 2016 is only providing TVs for the Chef de Mission’s office and the TV lounge on the common spaces. The furniture is provided according to the guidelines confirmed and agreed with the IOC. You are welcome to come to the Rate Card Desk and check if there are items available for purchase,” was the response from the organising committee.

The athletics squad as well had put in a request for the basic necessities. “Now we have decided to put one TV set on each of the floors and also put additional chairs. The equipment is expected to be placed in the apartments in the next few days,” said Rakesh Gupta, in a statement to the media.
