India A is preparing for its ODI series in Sri Lanka, which is set to commence in a few days. But right before the series, the team has been affected with an injury blow. Their vice captain, Riyan Parag, suffered with an injury towards the end of the Indian Premier League.
It was reported that Parag was playing in the IPL without being fully fit. And with him being removed from the India A squad due to an injury, all these reports seem to be true. But one man's loss is another man's opportunity, and in this case, the individual who has received an opportunity is the CSK skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Gaikwad has now replaced Riyan Parag in the ODI series against Sri Lanka A. It marks a sweet and unexpected comeback for the CSK skipper to the unofficial ODI team, as he could also build up his momentum to be a part of India's team in the ODI World Cup 2027.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a true ODI player, as he also played for the Indian team in place of Shreyas Iyer. When Iyer was injured in the series against South Africa, Gaikwad made his way to the team and he was able to display some brilliant performances. While he was not selected for the series against Sri Lanka A, he also didn't get an opportunity against Afghanistan. Now that Parag is injured, it is the right time for Gaikwad to make his comeback.
