Rio 2016 | Rower Dattu Bhokanal reaches quarters in men’s singles sculls
India’s sole rower Dattu Bhokanal entered the men’s singles sculls event after finishing third in the first heat of the day at Lagoa stadium in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The quarter-final stage of the event will take place on Tuesday (August 8) at 5pm at the Lagoa stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The 25-year-old from Maharashtra started the event on a strong note and was leading the race initially, before being overtaken by Cuba’s Angel Fournier Rodriguez. The Cuban led from there and finished with a timing of 7:06:89 to enter the quarters. Mexico’s Juan Carlos Cabrera (7:08.27s) finished second, while Dattu Bhokanal came third with a timing to 7:21:67 to take the last quarter-final spot in the

Army man Dattu Bhokanal is the ninth Indian rower to participate in the Olympics and had qualified for the quadrennial event a few months back by winning the silver medal at the FISA Asian and Oceania Olympic qualification regatta.
