After the women archers disappointed yesterday, India's medal hopes in the archery range will rest on Atanu Das' performance today. Also in action will be the track & field athletes, while the men's hockey team, who have qualified for the knockouts after 36 years, will play their last group match.

Atanu Das was in splendid form in his run-up to the Round of 16 in the Men's Individual Archery event after placing fifth in the qualification round. He will be pitted against Lee Seung-yun of South Korea who finished 12th in the qualification round. After women archers, Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi, crashed out yesterday, Atanu is India's only hope in the archery range.

Golfers Anirban Lahiri and Shiv Chawrasia will be competing in the Round 2 of the golf event after placing 50th and 27th respectively on Day 1.

Gagan Narang will be back in action for the 50m rifle prone event, along with Chain Singh, after his disappointing finish in the 10m air rifle event. But expectations are tempered since the 10m event was his forte. Mairaj Ahmad Khan, meanwhile, will try to qualify for the men's skeet event on the day. Also in action will be Gurpreet Singh in the Men's 25m rapid fire pistol event.

In badminton, India's doubles pairs, Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta, and Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy, will play their second group matches. Both had lost their first encounters.

After their victory against Samantha Stosur and John Peers in the Round of 16 yesterday, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna will take on Great Britain's Andy Murray and Heather Watson, who were given a last-minute entry into the draw after the withdrawal of Romanian pair Monica Niculescu and Florin Mergea, for a place in the last-four.

Day 7 also will see the beginning of the track & field events which will go on for ten days. While Usain Bolt will be the star attraction as expected, India has its own bunch of athletes competing in the preliminary rounds across disciplines. Discus thrower Vikas Gowda will begin the day for India, and among many others over the day, Ankit Sharma will be participating in the men's long jump.
