Rio 2016 | Dipa Karmakar, Mirza-Bopanna finish fourth, while Saina crashes out on Day 9

On another disappointing day for India, Dipa Karmakar landed her Produnova to manage a fourth place, while Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna lost their bronze-medal match in the mixed doubles event. The biggest disappointment of the day, however, was Saina Nehwal's ouster from the badminton event.
Gymnastics
Dipa Karmakar, who is the first-ever Indian gymnast to participate in a final event at the Olympics, finished fourth in the women’s vault final with a score of 15.066. In her first attempt, she scored a 14.866
Hockey
Indian men’s hockey team’s hopes of securing a medal in hockey for the first time since 1980, ended on Sunday after Belgium defeated them 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Akashdeep Singh put India in front in the first quarter, but three second-half goals ended India’s run at the Rio Games.
Tennis
Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna tamely surrendered their bronze-medal match against Radek Stepanek and Lucie Hradecka. Sania Mirza looked completely out of sorts as the duo lost 1-6, 5-7 to the Czech pair as India's tennis campaign ended at Rio.
Boxing
Boxer Manoj Kumar crashed out of the 64kg boxing event after he lost 0-3 to Uzbekistan's Fazliddin Gaibnazarov in his Round of 16
Badminton
2012 bronze medalist Saina Nehwal had a disappointing end to her medal hopes after she lost in straight-sets to of Ukraine 18-21, 19-21. The star was visibly hampered by a knee injury, and showed poor movement as her World No.61 opponent took her apart on the day.
In better news from the badminton arena, PV Sindhu won the third set 21-17 to win the match 19-21,21-15,21-17 to make it to the Round of 16 of the women's singles badminton event.
Kidambi Srikanth also advanced to the Round of 16 after winning 21-6, 21-18 against Henri Hurskainen of Sweden.
Shooting
In the men's 50m rifle three positions event, Chain Singh, who was in contention for a final place after 80 shots, finished a disappointing 23rd after scoring 380 (95, 94, 96, 95) in the standing round. Chain Singh finished with a total score of 1169.
The other Indian in the fray, Gagan Narang, finished 33rd in the qualifying round with a total score of 1162.
That marked a disappointing end to India’s medal hopes in shooting.
