Tamil Nadu government has announced cash incentives for the sportspersons who excelled at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and have won medals. Along with the cash prize, Chief Minister K Palaniswami, also wrote to each player individually, lauding them for their magnificent performances.

The recently concluded Commonwealth games in Australia were quite good for India, as they finished on the 3rd spot in the medal table, bagging 66 medals, 26 of which were Gold. According to reports from TOI, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami, wrote to squash players Joshna Chinappa, Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal, besides A Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan (Table Tennis), appreciating their medal-winning heroics.

The reports also mention that Pallikal will receive Rs 60 lakh for winning two silver medals, while Chinnappa and Ghosal will get Rs 30 lakh each for their respective single silver medals. Kamal, who won one silver and one bronze, will get Rs 50 lakhs for his terrific performances. This cash prize to Kamal will be in addition to the 50 lakhs that was already announced by CM for his gold in the team event. Kamal’s team-mate G Sathiyan, who won same amount of medals as him, is also set to receive same amount of cash as that of Kamal.

This kind of boost from the government will help in improving players’ morale and will benefit the sports fraternity as a whole.
