Heads will roll if I hear that sportspersons are having issues getting their incentives, says Rathore
Indian Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has issued a stern warning to the officials in the sports ministry that if the athletes don’t get what they deserve there will be serious consequences. Rathore has added that the sports ministry will be closely working in tandem with the NSF and IOA.
Olympic silver medalist and current Sports Minister of the country, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has developed a reputation for being a stringent leader, unbiased and unapologetic in nature. He has made some major strides in the field of sports, with a lot of backing from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well. The Khelo India movement was a brilliant example of the minister’s focus on the development of talent at the grassroots level.
Now the outspoken minister has issued a warning to the officials in the sports ministry as he claimed that the strict action would be taken against anyone who doesn’t give an athlete the incentives that he/she deserves.
"The officials in sports ministry and Sports Authority of India have been tasked to attend to your requirements and resolve your issues at the earliest. At any point in time if I hear that sportspersons are having issues in getting these incentives and funds there are few heads that will roll," Rathore warned.
"But before you (athlete) make any accusation, please be very sure that there was an error on our part and not on your part. There was this case that came to me, an athlete was complaining that he or she was not getting the incentive money. I was about to suspend one of my officers but later found out that the money was allotted to that athlete one year ago," Rathore told PTI.
The 48-year old minister also added that the functioning of the IOA and the National Sports Federations (NSF) has improved but the funds allocated to them by the ministry should be properly spent. He reiterated that his team of officials will be working closely with the two bodies in the near future.
"I am getting a very positive sense from Mr. Batra. He is already changing things within the IOA. The way IOA used to function that is not going to happen. Similarly, some of the NSF heads are brilliant and they are doing a very good job.
