Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore doubles pension of Olympic medalists
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has announced that Olympic medalists will now receive a pension of Rs.20,000 per month as compared to the Rs.10,000 they used to receive earlier. The Silver and bronze medalists of the Asian Games, CWG and Para Asian Games will receive Rs 12,000 per month.
Indian sports, in general, have received a lot of recognition in recent years and the success of Indian sportspersons on the big stages like the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games has brought the entire country a great deal of pride. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore brought some good news to these medalists recently as he announced that the Olympic medalists will now receive twice their pension.
In a written notice in Lok Sabha on Thursday, the Olympic silver-medalist revealed that at present the government gives lifelong pension to 588 players under the scheme of ‘Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons.'
Rathore revealed that as per the revised rates, Olympic and Para Olympic medallists will get a sum of Rs 20,000 per month each. He also added that gold medallists at World Cups and World Championships in Olympic and Asian Games disciplines will stand to receive Rs 16,000 per month.
Silver and bronze medallists in Olympic and Asian Games will be bestowed with a total of Rs 14,000 per month and a similar amount is payable to gold medallists of the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Para Asian Games. Silver and bronze medallists in the same competition will receive a sum of Rs. 12,000 per month.
