Arjuna Ranatunga arrested after bodyguards fire shots at protesters
Sri Lanka’s Petroleum Minister and cricket legend Arjuna Ranatunga was arrested on Monday for a violent incident amidst the ongoing political drama in the island nation. It has been reported that his bodyguards fired at some protesters which ended up claiming the life of one individual.
Former Sri Lankan World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga was arrested after his bodyguards fired on some people who were protesting against him. The bodyguards of 54-year-old Ranatunga, a loyalist of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, fired live rounds at the supporters of the new Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The said incident left person one dead. It was the first major violent incident related to the recent political turmoil in Sri Lanka.Â
