Golf | Women’s Indian Open to begin on October 18 in Gurgaon

The prestigious Women’s Indian Open Golf will be held from October 18th to 21st at the DLF Golf and country club in Gurgaon with an increased prize money. This edition of the tournament will be the 12th edition which had seen its inaugural edition way back in the year 2007 at the same golf course.

This Women’s Indian Open will see an increased prize money of half a million dollars unprecedented for Women’s golf in the country. That is not all for being unprecedented, the number of holes the players will participate on has been increased to 72 as well. 

The Indian challenge in the tournament will be presented by players like Amandeep Drall, Vani Kapoor, Gursimar Badwal and pro-Golf Tour Order of Merit leader Tvesa Malik. Vani Kapoor had finished joint sixth in the previous edition of the tournament and she will be one of the stars to look forward to. First Indian to win the tournament Aditi Ashok, however, is yet to register for the current edition of the tournament.

Apart from the Indians, in the field will be last edition’s winner Camille Chevalier from France and other strong contenders like Caroline Hedwall from Sweden, Beth Allen of the USA, Kanyalak Preedasuttjit, who won the Thailand Open and winner of the Australian Ladies Classic- Celine Boutier will also be a part of the tournament. This year the tournament will see 120 participants from almost 30 countries.

The tournament has seen increased popularity and prestige in the recent times. Presently, 11 of the top-20 players on the LET OOM have entered the tournament, which is more than the previous edition. With registration for the tournament not yet over, this number can go up. There are also nine tournament winners in the field, which includes the 2016 winner of the LET OOM.
