Government of India announces setting up of National Sports Education Board under Khelo India program
In the first full budget presented by Nirmala Sitharaman, the Indian government has announced the establishment of National Sports Education Board under the Khelo India program. Finance minister Sitharaman has said that the government is committed to expand the Khelo India scheme.
To develop sports education in the country, the union government is setting up a National Sports Education Board which will be a part of the Khelo India programme. Speaking during the budget the finance minister in the union government hailed the flagship event and said that it has created awareness for sports in India.
“Khelo India Scheme, launched in October 2017, has created awareness for sports as an integral part of wellness throughout the country,” Sitharaman said in her budget speech.
“The government is committed to expand Khelo India scheme and provide all necessary financial support. To popularise sports at all levels, a National Sports Education Board for development of sportspersons will be set up under Khelo India Scheme.”
Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju took to Twitter to welcome the proposals for sports made in the budget yesterday.
“On behalf of the entire sports fraternity of India I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to @narendramodiji & FM @nsitharamanji for the announcement in #Budget2019 to establish NATIONAL SPORTS EDUCATION BOARD for development of sportspersons under @kheloindia,” Rijiju wrote on Twitter.
