Eight gymnasts representing India in Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships

India is being represented by an eight-member team at the ongoing eighth edition of the Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Four Indian men and four women will be a part of the Indian team in the Championships in which 19 countries are taking part.

The Indian team includes Rakesh Kumar Patra, Yogeshwar Singh, Debang De and Arik Dey in the men’s categories. On the other hand, the list of female gymnasts includes Pranati Nayak, Shraddha Talekar, Pranati Das and Papiya Das. The qualification rounds will be played in the first two days of the competition this week which will be followed by team finals and apparatus finals.

As per a press release from the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI), all the Indian gymnasts will take part in all the apparatus events in the Championships (6 apparatus in men’s section and 4 in women’s categories). According to the regulation, only the best three scores on each of the apparatus will be recorded for the team score.

A total of 19 countries are taking part in the event. There are 15 nations in the men’s category while among the women, there are nine teams.

Rakesh Patra had qualified for the final round in the Parallel Bars event at the recently-concluded FIG World Challenge Cup in Koper, Slovenia earlier this month.
