Dipa Karmakar injures knee injury during vault final; Will miss Doha World Cup
Dipa Karmakar suffered a setback to her Tokyo 2020 Olympic journey after she aggravated her knee injury during the vault final at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku on Saturday. Karmakar’s coach revealed that she will now skip the World Cup in Doha and come back to India for rehabilitation.

She will now skip the World Cup in Doha and come back to India for rehabilitation and aim for Asian and World Championships this year,” Gymnastic Federation of India (GFI) vice president Riyaz Bhati told PTI.
Dipa has been troubled by her knee ever since she finished fourth at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. She had almost two years of injury lay-off after that following which she also had an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) surgery in Mumbai which made her skip the Asian Championships at Thailand in May last year.
However, on her return to the international circuit in July, Dipa created history by becoming the first Indian gymnast to win a gold medal at a global event after she emerged triumphant at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey.
