BCCI plans to felicitate Indian Olympians during Day-Night Test
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has plans to felicitate India's legendary Olympians Abhinav Bindra, MC Mary Kom and PV Sindhu on the sidelines of the second Test against Bangladesh. This Test, at the Eden Gardens from November 22-26, will be India’s first-ever Day-Night Test match.
Neighbours Bangladesh will travel to India as part of their first full tour in nearly two decades and play a three-match T20I series before two Tests. As per the final approval from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the proposal from newly-elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly for the second Test to be a pink-ball one played under floodlights has been accepted.
As a result, it is understood that the national board will go ahead with the arrangements to honour India’s great Olympians on the sidelines of the match. According to sources in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the board also has plans to invite schoolchildren and provide them free passes for the game.
“We want to invite and have plans to felicitate Mary Kom, Sindhu and all (great Olympians). We are just waiting for the BCB's confirmation at the moment. There are also plans to bring in school children, providing them free passes for the game," Ganguly told PTI prior to the confirmation.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, has been left to deal with tackling issues of their own with Test and T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan being banned by the ICC for not reporting approaches by bookies.
