India registered their first win of the Asian Volleyball Championship, beating Kuwait 3-0. The team will now be up against Uzbekistan on Friday, and if they manage to beat them too, they will play in the 9-12 classification matches. If not, they will have to play in 13-16 classification games.

After three straight losses in the Asian Volleyball Championship 2021, the Indian team registered their first win of the tournament, as they blanked Kuwait 3-0 on Thursday, September 16. Previously, India had lost to Bahrain, Qatar and Japan, to finish at the bottom of their group. It is noteworthy that only top two teams from each group would progress to the last eight.

This means, that India are now vying for a place in the ninth to 16th position classification matches. Now playing in Group G, India will be up against Uzbekistan and Bahrain.ย

As far as the match against Kuwait is concerned, Mahesh Ashwin Raj scored 11 points, followed by Shubham Chaudhary (10 points). After this win, India have now moved up in the rankings and are now placed 82 in the world. Kuwait are 135th after the loss.ย

On Friday, India will face Uzbekistan, and if India finish in the top-two of the Group, they will compete for places nine to 12. Back in 2005, the India team had finished a creditable fourth in the tournament, but since then the performances have dipped.
