Sania Mirza and Leander Paes teamed up to win the second exhibition match of the Tennis Masters series 6-2, 7-6(3) at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad on Thursday evening. Mirza and Bhupathi had won the first leg of the series at Kolkata yesterday defeating Paes and Navratilova.

The audience at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad were in for a surprise on Thursday evening as Sania Mirza partnered Leander Peas, unlike the match in Kolkata. The three - match exhibition series is organised as a prelude to the upcoming IPTL 2015.

Paes and Mirza played some brilliant tennis, as the feared Sania forehand caused problems for Bhupathi and Navratilova. In a match, where the result was secondary, a 59-year old Navratilova once again showed glimpses of her prime days.

Paes and Mirza, won the first set comfortably beating Navratilova and Bhupathi 6-2. The second set, saw a much tighter contest as both pairs worked hard for a win. The Indian pair, however, won the second set also 7-6 to register victory in the Hyderabad leg of the exhibition series.

The partnership of Paes and Mirza would give Indian tennis fans some joy and a lot of hope, with Navratilova also recommending the pair for the 2016 Olympics mixed doubles partnership. “If I were given the choice, I would pick these two (Paes and Sania) to represent India in the Olympics. And they have a very good chance of winning a medal,” the legendary Navratilova remarked after the show, reported The Hindu.
